 Micheal Vlahopoulos is Mayor since 2003. He was born in Thessaloniki in 1950 and grew up in Kavala. He studied Civil Engineering in Germany and specialized in the field of Transportation. He also speaks German.
He first started working in Germany and later in Greece. He was an adviser for the Ministry of Land Studies and participated in the organisation of public transport in Athens. From 1983 till 1989 he was a Technical Adviser for the Ministry of Public Work and in charge of the Road Safety On The National Roads Office.
Since then untill today he has dealt mostly with studies, manufactures and project administration. During this time,he also became Project Manager of the German company which constucted the two music halls in the ATHENS MUSIC HALL, the Studio of Picture Registration and the Projection Room in the NATIONAL WORKERS' UNION OF GREECE Office in Athens.
At the same time he studied public work in projects relative with the object of transport engineering. He also completed a project on the Unification of Archaeological Sites in Athens from Zappio to Ceramico.
He has been a freelance professional - observer and also a Technical Adviser for the European Investment Bank, especially in the area of controlling projects for the EZEZ programme which are currently taking place in Mount Athos and are being financed by the bank. A position he achieved after taking part in an international competition. For two years now he is the Technical Head of the Holy Community for the Third European Community Support Frame .
He is a founding member of the Greek Association of Transport Engineers, in which he was also a board member for a few years.
